Modern Standard Arabic (MSA) is one of the official six languages of the United Nations. It is the official or co-official language of many countries, including Egypt, Algeria, Bahrain, Chad, Djibouti, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Libya, Morocco, Oman, Palestine, Qatar, Somalia, Sudan, Syria, Tunisia, Mauritania, the United Arab Emirates, and Yemen. It is used in formal speaking situations such as, academic lectures, news broadcasts, religious sermons and official speeches, and in all formal writing such as official correspondence, literature and newspapers.
At the TAFL Center learners are exposed to MSA via class textbooks with supplemental authentic texts. The class also incorporates regular exposure to authentic material from the Arabic media, TV broadcasts, and Internet content.
This course is designed to enable students to be confident using Arabic, regardless of if they are starting from scratch or have already reached higher proficiency levels.
