We believe that successful language learning comes from communicating exclusively in the target language. Students in TAFL -from Beginners through Advanced Levels- will learn and practice Arabic through the study of "authentic texts", interacting with one another and the instructor in classes focused on conversation, and using Arabic outside the classroom during extracurricular activities and with language partners. While we teach all four skills of the language, we focus on speaking in order to enable students to communicate effectively with Arabic speakers from various regions.
We provide students with all the facilities and resources they need for their studies. This includes regular class materials, additional handouts and resources, and access to a library rich with books in diverse fields related to Arabic language learning, cultural studies, and more.
Our instructors have specific goals for each class. These goals encompass what students can do at the end of the term, according to ACTFL Proficiency Guidelines. After the placement test and OPI, they create highly-structured syllabi that provide explanations of the class objectives and listings of the activities used to reach them. The syllabi are given to students at the beginning of the course with the appropriate learning material that matches both class objectives and student needs. Instructors divide learning materials over the weeks of study using a bi-monthly lesson plan that communicates clearly what each class will entail and what students are expected to complete before and after each class.
