Placement Tests

Our placement tests have been designed to analyze students’ proficiency level in Arabic across the four skills of reading, writing, listening and speaking. We primarily test students according to ACTFL guidelines so they can be placed into groups corresponding to their appropriate level. All students, except for complete beginners, take a language assessment prior to the start of the program. The language assessment is not part of the application process.

OPI

TAFL is proud to boast a number of ACTFL-certified OPI (Oral Proficiency Interview). Our certified testers have been trained both locally and abroad. TAFL helps students to be prepared for the OPI in-person in Alexandria and online. The OPI is a structured assessment to establish the student’s speaking level of functional ability. This test is also used to measure the strengths and weaknesses of the student’s speaking oral proficiency. Created by the Foreign Service Institute of the US government more than 40 years ago, it is the gold standard in measuring speaking proficiency.
